Star Trek: Picard – Episode 3, Seventeen Seconds (2023)

To Engage

5th March 2023

Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart (“Logan”, “The Kid Who Would Be King”), and Will Riker, Jonathan Frakes, are still on board the Titan, now hiding in the nebula from Vadic’s, Amanda Plummer (“Pulp Fiction”, “Ratched (TV)”), incredible ship.

The only way they can evade her is by going deeper into the nebula, scrambling both theirs and her ship’s sensors. Although, amazingly, Vedic still manages to find them, forcing them deeper.

On one attack captain Liam Shaw, Todd Stashwick (“12 Monkey’s (TV)”, “You, Me And Dupree”), is injured and decides that, as Riker and Picard got them into this mess, they can get them out and he transfers his captaincy to Riker, who immediately decides to hide, giving engineering time to fix the warp drive.

As well as attempting to hide from Vadic, the ship is also subjected to the occasional hit from some kind of weird ‘wave’ of energy that has biological traces. It’s not something they have ever come across before, nor has anyone else.

Raffi Musiker, Michelle Hurd (“Daredevil (TV)”, “Lethal Weapon (TV)”), meanwhile, awakes in a bed, she hears a noise and grabs a nearby gun to find Worf, Michael Dorn (“Arrow (TV)”, “Ted 2”), who identifies himself as her handler.

Worf says he’s calmer nowadays, not the quick-to-jump-to-death option Worf we’ve known previously. He knows who the Ferengi was dealing with and say he and Raffi will go and find him, find out what he knows.

Back onboard the Titan and Picard has an uncomfortable conversation with Doctor Beverly Crusher, Gates McFadden, about his son Jack, Ed Speleers (“Downton Abbey (TV)”, Outlander (TV)”), and why he wasn’t told.

Jack meanwhile, believes he’s identified how Vadic is managing to consistently find the Titan despite being in the Nebula. He heads for Seven of Nine, Jeri Ryan, who’s confined to her quarters for insubordination.

Together, they realise there’s a problem on the ship, something that would be easy for any ship to track. They head to engineering and split up, which is when Jack is jumped, knocking his oxygen mask off, forcing him to breathe in a nasty toxin.

Jonathan Frakes takes directorial duties for episode three of Picard which sees us nearly a third into the final season already. Things move on in this episode, we learn who is behind all this, potentially, and have a possible reason as to why they may be doing it all. Whether there will be another twist, only time will tell.
