Star Trek: Picard – Episode 2, Disengage (2023)

Picard Is Back, For The Final Time

24th February 2023

We are back two weeks in the past to see Jack Crusher, Ed Speleers (“For Love Or Money”, “Outlander (TV)”), onboard his ship, Beverly nowhere to be seen. He’s attempting to gain access to a planet but does not have the requisite permits.

He attempts to explain they are there to deliver medical supplies, help stop a pandemic that’s raging on the planet, however he also has illegal alcohol and weapons, which he uses to bribe his way in. However, unbeknownst to him, the guards have hailed another party, saying “they have him”.

Raffi Musiker, Michelle Hurd (“Daredevil (TV)”, “Lethal Weapon (TV)”), meanwhile witness the power of the weapon that has been stolen as it is used to destroy a mid-level Starfleet training facility. She wants to track down the culprits at any costs but is told to disengage, the mission has been ended.

Raffi isn’t one to just let something go and instead decides to track down the person who brokered the deal between those who stole the weapon and those who used it.

Meanwhile, back onboard Jack’s ship and Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart (“Logan”, “The Kid Who Would Be King”), and Will Riker, Jonathan Frakes, are in trouble. The alien ship destroys the shuttle, trapping them onboard, it then tries to beam Jack out but Picard stops them.

Then the alien ship decides to take the whole ship and gets it in a tractor beam, begins pulling it in.Their cause is lost, no weapons, power fading, being pulled towards an alien ship. Thankfully, eventually, the Titan steps in, breaking the beam and transporting the four of them onboard.

The alien ship hails the Titan, Liam Shaw, Todd Stashwick (“12 Monkey’s (TV)”, “You, Me And Dupree”), talks to Vadic, Amanda Plummer (“Pulp Fiction”, “Ratched (TV)”), their captain. She knows a lot about them, individually, and lowers the shields so the Titan can see what her ship is capable of, which is a lot, more weapons than a large country.

Picard talks to Jack and attempts to get any information out of him they can. Shaw and Seven of Nine, Jeri Ryan, find that Jack is a con-man, stealing and selling things he shouldn’t. Shaw throws him in the brig. Picard has 30 minutes to find anything out he can, what he finds he sort of already knew, certainly Riker did.

As we reach the end of the episode, Raffi is in discussions with a dangerous Ferengi and needs saving from a familiar face to TNG fans. Meanwhile Picard steps in to stop the escaped Jack from beaming himself to Vadic’s ship and they decide to run.

A nice explainer episode for the second one in though when you get to the end you do wonder what actually happened, the answer is not much, not much that you couldn’t have predicted certainly.

You just know that somehow all of this is going to link together at some point. At what point that will be, we will just have to wait and see.
