And we are finally in space, well, we are now finally, kind of, almost, at the end, we got there, we are in space. Eventually.
Picard attempts to convince Rafi to help him with his quest to find the mysterious Maddox. We learn who Rafi is, she was waiting for Picard when he finished his hearing after the Mars incident.
Rafi is convinced that the secret Romulan operatives are at work, but Picard can’t get his head around why the Romulan’s would sabotage their own evacuation by destroying the very fleet that’s out to save them.
Rafi doesn’t want to know; she’s been left bitter that Picard hasn’t contacted her at all after she was fired because he resigned. She does, however, provide him with a pilot.
Whilst waiting for this pilot to get in touch, Picard and his friends are attacked at his chateau by the black-clad operatives. They defeat them, with the help of the good Dr. Agnes Jurati who arrives just in the nick of time. She has a condition though; she wants to go with them on their adventure.
We finally meet the captain who will take this merry gang on their journey across the stars. Cristobal ‘Chris’ Rios, Santiago Cabrera (“Transformers: The Last Knight”, “Big Little Lies”), who has a hologram of himself on his ship, which injects some nice humour to proceedings.
Soji meanwhile, has a chat with the last Romulan who was assimilated on the Borg cube they’re on. This woman knows her, knows she has a sister, claims to have seen her before. Soji doesn’t know quite what’s going on, or how she knows some of the information she does.
After the previous episode, which felt pointless and completely the wrong direction, this one, thankfully, picks up the pace and brings some much-needed Star Trek-ness to proceedings.
For one thing, we are in space, finally, for another, Picard actually utters those immortal words, engage, with the arm action and everything. Glorious. This may not be, yet, the series we were hoping for, but it looks like it might finally be kicking into gear.
