We pickup episode two where episode one left-off after Sheila had collapsed at her first aerobics class. She wakes up in the office of instructor Bunny, Della Saba (“Ralph Breaks The Internet”, “Zootropolis”), and her fella Tyler, Lou Taylor Pucci (“American Horror Story (TV)”, “A-X-L”).
Bunny and Tyler live in the office of the mall, where they also work. With Tyler making money shooting porno and Bunny running her classes.
Sheila, Rose Byrne (“I Am Mother”, “Peter Rabbit”), in desperate need of money after spending her savings on food, decides to take the opportunity to blackmail the pair and take their money, otherwise she’ll inform the shopping mall on them.
Meanwhile, Danny’s, Rory Scovel (“Robbie (TV)”, “Harley Quinn (TV)”), political ambitions get off to a rocky start in episode two of Physical as his endorsement avenues begin to close-up.
He tries to get the backing of a local businessman who, it transpires, is the husband of the mother that collars Sheila each morning as she drops her daughter off at kindergarten.
Of course, Sheila has no idea, despite being told numerous times by Greta, Dierdre Friel (“New Amsterdam (TV)”, “Little Boxes”), but it hits home when she visits their huge family home.
Danny is bombing, pretty much everywhere he goes, and so Sheila needs to pull herself together and help him in any way she can…right after she’s scoffed his entire leaving cake from the college.
There’s more inner monologue from Sheila, cutting and dark and funny as always, as she desperately tries to get back into Bunny’s class, which is tricky given she’s just fleeced them. She manages to find a way though.
Physical is the latest TV foray from Apple TV+, or whichever way round that is, and is from producer Annie Weisman who brought us “Desperate Housewives” and the “About A Boy” series.
Directorial duties go to Craig Gillespie (“I, Tonya”, “Lars And The Real Girl”), Liza Johnson (who also produces) and Stephanie Laing (“I’m Sorry (TV)”, “Made For Love (TV)”).
The second episode is in a very similar vein to the first, dark, funny and cutting with lots to make you smile. As previously Byrne shines as Sheila.
