Avenue 5 – Episode 2: And Then He’s Gonna Shoot Off…

27th January 2020

The passengers are, understandably, pissed that they will now have to face three-years on the Avenue 5. The crew and mission control are desperately trying to think of ways to bring them back early.

Back on Earth, Judd mission control contact NASA who are willing to help, but for a large price. Judd aren’t keen on paying so further thoughts are required. One crew member believes they have discovered a way of getting back with just an extra six months. This results in Judd telling NASA to p*ss off, basically, which may, or may not, be a massive mistake.

Meanwhile, the funeral of the real captain doesn’t go well, using Judd’s casket, which is sprayed gold and weighs a ton, it ends up orbiting the ship, passing by every hour. This isn’t helped when three further crew members die and also end up orbiting the ship in their transparent caskets.

The crew and passengers continue to turn on Clark (Laurie) and calling him out for the fake captain he is.

As with episode one of Avenue 5, you get the sense there is something really funny to be had here, it just isn’t quite making its way through. I’m told the first few episodes aren’t the best so I’m sticking with it to see.

The laughs are thin on the ground in this episode and when you take out the parts that are there purely for laughs, you aren’t left with much in the way of forward progression. Releasing this week by week doesn’t feel like the best idea thus far.
