The worst gothic-space band, Narek and his sister, realise that Soji dreams, this, they say, is a vulnerability that they can exploit. Male boy-band leader Narek thinks he can get into her underlying code without triggering her defence protocols.

As the crew speed towards the Borg Artefact, they convince Rafi to sweet-talk a Federation friend into providing Jean-Luc with the credentials required to get onto the Borg, otherwise it would have been seen as an act of war by the Romulans.

Soji meanwhile finds out she is only ever speaking to her mom for 70 seconds each night. She is promptly falling asleep once she begins speaking to her. She gets suspicious and scans a number of her childhood possessions to find out the age of them, the scanner saying everything is just 37 months old.

Soji tells her Romulan, gothic, boy-band lover about her stuff and he convinces her that perhaps someone has put false memories in her head. He says he can help her get those memories by doing a traditional Romulan meditation which is more like regression therapy.

Once done, which was all just to find out her home planet, he tries to kill Soji with some red mist, maybe a gothic-space band aftershave or something, but this only results in Soji being triggered and she punches her way out of the room, literally.

Picard beams onboard the Artefact but has flashbacks to his previous assimilation. He finally meets up with Hugh, Jonathan Del Arco (“Major Crimes (TV)”, “24  (TV)”), a friendly face from yesteryear, who you may remember was Third of Five in the The Next Generation.

Hugh helps Picard find Soji, who is in a mild panic but rather than pummelling them, she decides to go with them. They use some unused Borg technology to flee the Artefact and ask Rios and co to meet them there.

Apart from the Romulan double-act, space-band, Picard is really starting to pick-up. Sadly, these two numpties are making it difficult to watch at times, mainly whenever they’re on screen.

They’re about as convincing as a thrown-together boy-band (or girl-band) and have about as much charisma. Still, the good thing is looks like we may be done with the soppy stuff from them for now as the chase begins.

This is a decent episode and wait till you see who is in the teaser for next week!

Picard and the crew track Soji to the Borg cube in Romulan space, resurfacing haunting memories for Picard.
