We receive all manner of movies here at OC Towers but I have to be honest, receiving a micro-short is a new one even for us.
Michael Wong is the man in question, those of you with good memories will remember that he sent over the rather excellent The Story Of 90 Coins. It’s fair to say The Tattooist is nothing like that.
I’m of the belief that a short film should leave you wanting to see more. More about the characters, the situation, just more. You don’t want it to end after such a short period of time, you want to keep watching.
A micro-short, therefore, must work even harder to make that happen. I’ll admit, when Michael sent me the email I was sceptical that this was going to be possible. I needn’t have worried.
Opening on a woman, face down, having her back tattooed by an unknown artist, everything appears normal. As the camera moves around the woman, bathed in neon light, things get dark and disturbing very quickly.
We’re not sure exactly where we are, who these people are, but one thing is for certain, The Tattooist enjoys things a lot more when he’s giving more pain then he usually is!
The Tattooist is a wonderful one minute and 18 seconds of film making. It’s astonishing to be able to get so much into such a short time frame. Does it leave you wanting more? You’re dead right it does!
