Tribeca Teams Up With Chanel To Launch Women’s Filmmaker Program

A hot topic at the moment, generally but nowhere more so than in Hollywood, is the role of female writers, directors and actors in the movie industry.

To help with this Tribeca have teamed up with Chanel to launch Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program to support emerging women writers and directors.

The three-day program will run out of the US and is concentrating on short narrative films. It is being run at the Tribeca Film Institute in collaboration with Pulse Films.

The aim is to discover and empower seven rising stars of the filmmaking world with support for their projects via master-classes, 1-2-1’s and peer-to-peer session.

The inaugural program will take place on October 26-28th with the winner of the $75,000 prize to make her film, with the support of Pulse and Tribeca Digital Studios, being selected from pitches to the panel.

The Leadership Committee (the panel) for the inaugural dates include: Julianne Moore (Freeheld, Still Alice), Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol, American Psycho), Emily Mortimer (“Doll & Em”, Hugo), Donna Gigliotti (Silver Linings Playbook, Shakespeare In Love), Celia Costas (“Angels In America”, Charlie Wilson’s War), Catherine Hardwicke (Miss you Already, Thirteen), Ellen Lewis (“Boardwalk Empire”, The Wolf Of Wall Street), Lydia Pilcher (Darjeeling Limited, The Talented Mr. Ripley).

Some filmmakers who are slated to take part are: Numa Perrier, the writer of Jezebel, Roja Gashtili and Julia Lerman, writers of The Last Shift, Vera Miao, writer of MA, Anna Martemucci, writer of One Cambodian Family Please For My Pleasure, Christina Voros, writer of Valentine and Kat Coiro, writer of Wig Shop.
