Safety Not Guaranteed Movie

I hadn’t heard much about this film, in fact I’d heard nothing, which is a shame as it’s a really good.

The plot is simple; a magazine (Seattle Magazine) is looking for news stories and one of the writers spots an advert asking for a partner to go back in time, he takes a couple of interns with him and off they go to find the person who placed the advert.

Obviously there’s more to it to then that as the writer (Jake Johnson) actually wants to go and see a woman he had a crush on growing up and doesn’t care about the story.

The film revolves around one of the interns, played brilliantly by Aubrey Plaza, who is a bit of a loner and starts to get involved at an emotional level with the man who placed the advert, played by Mark Duplass.

What follows is a story that will have you laughing out loud at parts and wondering if Duplass is a nutcase, or if he really has built a time machine and can time travel.

This is essentially the first film from writer Derek Connolly having only previously written a TV movie back in 2005, and he turns to the director of that movie, Colin Trevorrow, to direct that this which is pretty much the first thing he’s done too.

That only heightens how good this film is. Yes there are a few sloppy moments and the camera work isn’t anything special but this shouldn’t and doesn’t distract from what is a fabulous film.

It’s wonderful and quirky and is acted with aplomb, I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing even more of Aubrey Plaza then we already have!
