Part prequel and sequel, A Quiet Place Part 2 is a pulse pounding Thriller from start to finish. The Abbot family is forced to brave the outside world over a year after the planet is taken over by creatures who hunt by sound. John Krasinski returns as director and sole writer of this instalment.
The way the story is structured provides a solid framework around the A Quiet Place, which made waves when it was released in 2018. It was a wise choice to bring all of the family back, most notably Emily Blunt (“Edge Of Tomorrow”, “The Girl On The Train”) as Evelyn. A true matriarch of this story, Blunt maintains an honest performance which shows how much Evelyn has been hardened by this world.
Cillian Murphy (“Inception”, “28 Days Later”) as Emmett becomes a form of surrogate father figure for the group. A Quiet Place Part 2 delivers everything the fans would want. The sound design is as visceral and crucial to the narrative as the original. I was thrilled to see even more action and scares than the first feature. And it all plays out in a world that was expanded upon.
Tried and true tropes of the genre are well executed, such as having separate moments of rising action play against each other. This movie, like the characters in the world portrayed, wastes no time. A well paced story which cuts to the chase, that is what we have with A Quiet Place Part 2.
Only one error of logic gave me pause. This was a baffling story element that added to the suspense of a scene, but it ended up inconsequential, so I am happy to overlook it. What more can be said, other than movies are back, and A Quiet Place Part 2 is one to catch in the theater.
