I confess I have a soft spot for Luc Besson, in fact I love his movies from the Fifth Element to Angel-A the man is a genius and I won’t hear another word on the matter!
As you can guess then, this movie is a Luc Besson film, although he doesn’t direct he co-writes with Robert Mark Kamen (Taken, Transporter, The Fifth Element, The Karate Kid – old and new) his old screenwriting pal.
Directing credits go to Olivier Megaton who directed Transporter 3 and he does a nice job, nothing stand-out but it doesn’t get in the way and, are you watching Paul Greengrass?, he does action without shakey-cam-ness.
Zoe Saldana plays Cataleya who, as a young girl, sees her parents die in front of her, murdered by a bunch of warring drug lord gangster types. They, foolishly, don’t kill the young girl at the breakfast table who grows up to exact revenge on them.
Ok, so the story isn’t anything new, even to Besson, however it is well put together, it’s a tad cliché in parts but it goes along and does what it wants well enough.
Not a classic and not Leon but still a good film.
