The annual Razzies have been announced and I doubt you’ll be surprised which films are leading the nominations this year.
The people behind The Razzies have said 2017 was the year of recycling with 87 of the top 100 earning films were “sequels, remakes or rip-offs”, it’s hard to contradict them.
Top of the pile, or is bottom? Whichever, it’s Transformers: The Last Knight, which has been nominated in every single category except worst actress. To top it off, the organisers have listed the film as “Transformers XVII”.
Transformers is nominated for: worst picture, worst actor for Mark Wahlberg (who is also nominated in the same category for Daddy’s Home 2), worst supporting actor for Josh Duhamel, worst supporting actress for Laura Haddock, worst screen combo “Any combination of two humans, two robots or two explosions”, worst remake, rip-off or sequel, worst director and worst screenplay.
Transformers is up against; Baywatch, The Emoji Movie, Fifty Shades Darker and The Mummy for the worst picture award with worst actress being: Katherine Heigl (Unforgettable), Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades), Jennifer Lawrence (Mother!), Tyler Perry (Boo 2! A Madea Halloween) and Emma Watson (The Circle).
The worst director nomination sees Mother! garner it’s second nomination for Darren Aronofsky alongside Bay, plus: James Foley (Fifty Shades), Alex Kurtzman (The Mummy) and Tony Leonidis (The Emoji Movie).
Perhaps the most amusing category is the ‘worst screen combo’ one which, as well as the Transformers one above, also has “any combination of two characters, two sex toys or two sexual positions” for Fifty Shades Darker, “any two obnoxious emojis” for The Emoji Movie, “Johnny Depp & his worn-out drunk routine” for Pirates and “Tyler Perry & either the ratty old dress or worn-out wig” for Boo 2!.
The Razzies take place on the 3rd March 2018, a day before the Oscars.
